I love Woke Superman.
But seriously, how ridiculous are all the internet manbabies crying about how ‘woke’ Superman is. Did they just crawl out of a cave? Actually…they probably did – or at the very least, their mommy’s basement.
I have a theory…I don’t believe that those internet manbabies are mad about the parallels between Boravia and Israel. I think they’re mad because [slightly spoilery, but not really] Superman told Lois that he loved her first. Seriously! Andrew Tate WOULD NEVER. Those red-pilled incels cannot conceive of love; Not romantic love, social love or even parental love. It’s Superman’s capacity to love that has them so pissed off. They want more of Zack Snyder’s bitter Superman, a hero so close to the edge that he might turn bad at any moment. But is that really what the world needs right now?
What the world needs right now is MORE of James Gunn’s vision for the DC Universe. As I’ve reiterated countless times, I’m here for any kind of project that James Gunn wants to give us. I was here for Tromeo & Juliet, I was here for Scooby Doo, I was here for Slither. Give it to us, James…Lobo first!
Can we talk a minute about Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor? It’s about time someone portrayed Lex as he really is – a fucking sociopath that wants to kill Superman. That’s it – that’s all we needed. Every onscreen Lex Luthor in recent history has come along with a DSM-V diagnosis, like we’re supposed to feel bad for him. Hackman’s had delusions of grandeur, Rosenbaum’s came with more daddy issues than Starlord, and Eisenberg’s seemed schizophrenic. (I can’t speak to Spacey, but I assume he wanted to molest Superman.) Thank you for coming to my LEX Talk.
I won’t repeat all of the other reviewers’ talking points, because I wholeheartedly agree that the cast is perfect, the script was perfect, the usage of John Williams’ original score was perfect…really, I only had one complaint. I wanted to see Eve’s toes. Bring me the Gunn Cut, with an extended reveal of Miss Tessemacher’s toes.
