It’s been like a zillion years since we’ve had a family movie night…I guess technically, it wasn’t really a family movie night, since Lily wanted nothing to do with Ant-Man, instead barricading herself under her bed with Netflix and my cat.
I’m trying to remember when Paul Rudd first hit my consciousness…it wasn’t Clueless, because I’ve never seen it. It had to have been Wet Hot American Summer, which reminds me – I need to watch the new episodes on Netflix. His brattiness was so funny and so dreamy. They needed someone with his level of charisma to play Ant-Man – his back story should have made him totally unlikable…but there’s no way to make Paul Rudd unlikable. Especially after that much cardio.
It’s easy to not like Michael Douglas, but he was more sympathetic than I expected. CGI has come a long way…they did a damn good job on him during the flashback scenes. Can they do that for a whole movie and make another Romancing the Stone? What can CGI do for Kathleen Turner?
It took me half the movie to place the actress playing Hope. Oh yeah, Evangeline Lilly…the badass elf. (I never watched Lost either.) She was alright, I guess.
Judy Greer is in EVERYTHING.
Yellowjacket totally reminded me of Michael Symon. He should have been cooking up some lamb chops, instead of turning them to jelly. Can I admit that the most stressful part of the film was the fate of those poor little lambs?
Also, whoever designed the Quantum Realm has done acid…lots of good 90s acid.
So, other than the fact that 50% of the movie is a training montage, it was fun to watch. Really, there’s no way to get around that in most superhero origin movies – human ones, anyway. I don’t know shit about Ant-Man, but my husband confirmed that it made him happy, so they must have done a good job. Ant-Man was an adorable film and I’m looking forward to Ant-Man and Wasp in a few years.
I am now totally ready to enjoy Civil War. When does that come out again? Shit! It’s the weekend after next! I can’t miss this one…I regret missing The Force Awakens and Deadpool in the theater…
